Charity

The Devine's, like most of us, have come to support their chosen charities through those people who have touched their lives.  It gives them great pride to be able to combine their craft and caring to give to such worthy causes.

Each week in Canada, two children are diagnosed and one person dies from Cystic Fibrosis.  It is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults and there is no cure.

Purchase your key today and help us unlock the next discovery in research that leads us to a cure or effective control for all those who suffer from this life-shortening disease. Ted and Carol give 20% from the sale of each Key sale to finding a cure.

Imagine a world in which a drug could reverse the symptom of cystic fibrosis.  A world in which a child with CF’s biggest worries were soccer matches, crushes, play dates, scraped knees, and homework, rather than infection and the panic of not being able to breathe.  A world in which people with CF can hope to live longer lives in better health, able to follow their dreams and reach their full potential.  It is only fair to give everyone with CF the opportunity to have the same experiences we all take for granted.

Why This Initiative Is Important To Us

My son has Cystic Fibrosis.  He was diagnosed at the age of 7 1/2.  It was devastating and I couldn't do anything about it.  Since then I have held my own fundraisers for CF and now along with my friends at Devine Jewellers, have created this beautiful pendant to raise money and awareness about this complicated disease.  Whenever I wear my own pendant, it draws the attention of people who are curious and allows me to tell the story behind this beautiful key pendant.  It is the key to my heart, the key to hope and the key to a cure for me, for my son and all the other mothers who stay awake at night waiting for their children to live a normal life.  ~Diana Boucher

The inspiration for the Key Pendant came from the key that opened the very first display case Ted and Carol Devine ever owned. Through the years, as our location changed so did our display cases, as we moved from first one small shop to another until we found our home in the Chateau Laurier. Through all those changes we had kept this little key. Resting on the windowsill, sitting on Ted's workbench, hanging from a simple nail by the door ... always somewhere close by, just there, a touch stone to our beginnings, our hard work, dreams and blessings. This past October 2013  we celebrated our 30th Anniversary within the historic walls of the Chateau Laurier and as Ted and Carol were looking for something to mark such a moment, there it was … the little key.

A phone call from a good friend requesting our support began our New Year and this is where it all began to feel predestined. The Key pendant was very quickly offered as a donation to the gala being organized by the Ottawa Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada and we were very happy to be able to use our craft to contribute to the cause that meant a great deal to Diana because of her son.  It seemed somehow fitting that our good luck charm would perhaps bring some good luck to Cystic Fibrosis in finding a cure.

Our hope is that this sentimental symbol of our journey throughout the years will be purchased by many CF family members, friends, colleagues and quite frankly, anyone who embraces the intrinsic value that we at Devine Fine Jewellery feel towards this Key to a Cure.
